Melvin Upton Primrose

Westlock, Alberta

OBITUARY Print

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather and brother, Melvin Upton Primrose, on March 10 2021, at the age of 87.

Mel will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He was a jack-of-all-trades who loved gardening, horses, nature and woodworking and took great pride in the many inventions he created over the years. He was very active in the Westlock Legion for many years, both on the dance floor and maintaining the dance floor. He also mentioned his “coffee group” often and truly enjoyed the conversations and friendships that it brought to his life.

Mel is survived by his son Terry (Shereen) Primrose, daughters Gail (Dave) Hiebert and Darlene Primrose , grandchildren Casey and Keanna Hiebert and his twin brother Alvin (Cheryl) Primrose

Mel was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean Cobban, his parents Gordon and Marion Primrose and his siblings Helen, Donald, Jack, Daisy, Glen, Gordon, Eric and Scott.

Due to  Covid,  there will be an invitation only service on Tuesday March 23 at 2PM. The service will also be live-streamed on the "Christ Lutheran Church of Mellowdale" Facebook page.  A recorded version of the service will also be uploaded to Youtube at a later date. Once completed, the link will be posted at www.christlutheranchurch.ca

My sympathy to Mel's family. Some years ago Mel took a little of this and a little of that and invented a monopod for my husband's wheelchair which enabled him to use his camera with one hand. We were so grateful to Mel for this invention which gave my husband so many hours of joy and resulted in many wonderful pictures.

It is with a very heavy heart I am writing this note. I was to see Mel about 2 weeks ago and we had a nice visit. I often helped him with his TV and Computer which Jean I & I arranged for a Christmas a few years ago. Mel was always teasing me and of course I also teased him right back. He got Marge and me involved with the Garden Club and the Legion.I have let a mutual friend from Villinuve , Marshall Berubie know of his passing. Rest well my friend  Mel , Paul

So sorry to hear about Mel.  We used to have coffee with him early morning (pre-Covid).  We sure enjoyed his stories and gardening advice.  He was a great guy and we will truly miss him.  Our heartfelt condolences.
