Marion Doreen Ward

It is with great sadness the family announces that our Mom, Marion Doreen Ward, of Westlock, Alberta died peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, with her youngest daughter Sandra by her side.

Predeceased by her husband Glen, of 51 years, in 2008, her mother Pearl Craswell (nee Parker/MacGillvray) in 2006. Stepdad William Craswell in 1977, brothers Douglas Parker, 1965, and Thomas Parker, 1996.

Mom was born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan. She achieved her certificate as a Certified Nursing Aide in 1954, but severe eczema on her hands forced her to give up that profession. When Mom moved to Perryvale, Alberta, she helped her Stepdad William Craswell run the general store.

On September 27, 1956, she married Glen Ward. For the first 6 years they moved around southern Saskatchewan and Alberta while dad worked on the oil rigs. In 1963 they settled on the family farm in Perryvale, taking over the reins of the small mixed farm his parents owned. Mom and Dad sold the farm (homestead of Percy and Marion Ward) and retired to Westlock on June 8, 1996.

Doreen is survived by her daughters Holly (Michael), Sandra (Brian), and son Campbell; her 6 grandchildren: Nathan and Riley, Christopher and Quinton, Danielle and Steven, and 7 great grandchildren: Kadyn, Zack, Alaric, Sloane, Olivia, Logan and Sequoia.

Doreen was a loving wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma, an avid gardener, and excellent cook, and a baker of delicious desserts.

Our gratitude to Dr. Benard and to the nursing staff at the Westlock Continuing Care Centre for their professionalism, care, and support they provided to Mom over the past year.

Cremation will take place. At Mom’s request there will be no service.
