for all time are Deborah Poirier, his brothers Leonard & Patrick (Karen) Friedel, his sister-inlaw
Joy Cunningham, his brother-in-law Brian Burke, numerous nieces and nephews, and
countless others who were a part of Cliff’s inner circle, including his beloved puppy, Layla.
Cliff was predeceased by his wife Marge (2011), his parents Helen (1980) & Bernard (1993),
his brother George (2009) & his wife Albertha (2009), his sister Isabel (2014) & her husband
George Bozak (2012), his sister Margaret (2019) & her husband John McFadden (2011), his
sister-in-law Mabes Friedel (2020), his sister-in-law Delores Burke (2020), and his in-laws
Lilly (1983) & Montrose Cunningham (1993).
Born on November 10, 1930 to a strong and resilient homesteading family in the Peace River
Country (Fairview, AB), Cliff learned his love of work at a very young age. To supplement
the family income over the winter months, as a teenager Cliff went to work with his older
brother George in northern lumber camps. By his twenties, Cliff had ventured south to work
in the oil and gas sector. It was at this time that he met the love of his life, Marge, then
working in the small town of Breton, AB. They married in 1957 and went on to build a
loving family in west central Alberta. Cliff was known as a skilled and talented equipment
operator – the evidence of his hard work can be seen every day in countless places in
Edmonton and surrounding municipalities, including roads that we drive on, bridges that we
cross, and buildings that we shop in.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Darren of Meridian Medical Clinic, AHS Home Care staff,
the team at the Good Samaratin Cottages, and various individuals at Westview Health Centre
(all in Stony Plain) for their kind and generous care of our Poppy.
A private ceremony and inurnment will take place in spring 2022 at a time and place to be
announced.
