Thompson, Leonard Edward
Leonard Edward Thompson went peacefully, to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, at the Keir Care Centre on May 13, 2019 in Barrhead, Alberta, at the age of 88.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hanna, his son Lindy (Sanjani) also of Barrhead, his daughters Shiela of Maple Ridge and Michelle (Manon) of Calgary. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Linnette, Shawna (Doug), Lucas, Tanya and Kremma (Rahul) and eight great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Tristan, Isabella, Jared, Drew, Teagan, Audina and Araav. Len has scores of relatives and friends in locations around the world. Len is preceded in death by his son, Kevin, his parents, Gilbert and Doris Thompson, and his only sibling, Clayton (Sheila).
This loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was born on September 13, 1930 and grew up in Barrhead. Len, married Hanna, March 28, 1951, in Mellowdale, Alberta. After moving to Edmonton and over the next twelve years, the couple welcomed their four children into their home. Len worked for the Federal Government for 19 years, much of that time he served as a Boiler Engineer at the RCMP detachment.
Always a generous man who was proud of his family is also described as caring, intelligent, hardworking, creative, sensitive and very resourceful and humble. Many comment on his sense of humor and infectious smile.
Len had a private pilots license and was passionate about flying his various planes that he owned over the years. He also loved to play guitar and harmonica with various local gospel groups. As an avid and accomplished hunter he provide meat every autumn for his family and others.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for 2 pm May 25, 2019 at Bethel Pentecostal church, Barrhead, Alberta, with an ice cream social to follow. Pastor Trevor Crowe will officiate. We look forward to celebrating Len’s life with friends and family.
