Elsie Morrison

December 10, 2019

Obituary

August 13, 1924 to December 10, 2019

It is with sincere sadness that the family of Elsie Morrison advises you of the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt on December 10, 2019.

Mom was born in Drumheller AB in August of 1924 to Ernest and Eunice Tudor but lived much of her life in the Lacombe area and it was always the place she considered her home. She met a young WWII veteran Howard Morrison and the two were married in 1947. They began their new life together on a farm north of Bentley. Over the years they lived near Bentley, in Leduc, near Rimbey, near Blackfalds, finally settling on the edge of Morningside. God blessed mom and dad with 3 children: Grant in 1949, Carolyn in 1952 and Norman in 1956.

Life was not always easy for mom and dad but they faced every challenge together and were an example not only to their family but also to their many friends and acquaintances. Perhaps the hardest experience of mom’s life was losing our dad to cancer in 1995. One of the ways mom dealt with her grief was to swim. She was a dedicated swimmer and set a goal of covering the distance from Lacombe to Winnipeg (1000 miles) where son Grant and his family lived. She accomplished her goal of 1000 miles, then converted her distance tracking to metric and had almost reached 2000 kilometres when she stopped swimming!

Mom lived in the Westlock Continuing Care Centre for the last 4 years and during that time she was provided amazing care from a very special niece Louise Brand. As a family, we are very grateful to Louise, her husband Rick, and her children and grandchildren for all the love they provided Mom during a challenging time.

Elsie Morrison was predeceased by her husband, parents, three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Maynard of Chilliwack, her children Grant (Lynda) Morrison of Winnipeg, Carolyn Senecal of Kelowna and Norman Morrison of Edmonton, her grandchildren Heather (Bryan) Jacobson of Winnipeg, Simon Senecal of Rockwood ON and Rebekah (Russel) Hiebert of Winnipeg and her great-grandchildren Nathan and Clara Jacobson of Winnipeg and Lucy and Hope Hiebert of Winnipeg. Mom is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned in Lacombe in spring 2020.

We love you mom and will always remember you with joy.
